Mental Health

The mind and the body constantly interact and influence each other. How people relate with others and their environment affects their mind, and indirectly their bodies. There is an intricate relationship between psychological (mental and emotional) health and physiological health.

Pearls Counselling and Therapy takes a broad approach, or a holistic view, of mental health, including physiological, environmental, socio-economic, sociopolitical, and cultural--spirituality, beliefs, values, practices, and rules (prescriptions and proscriptions)--factors.

Effective treatment of a mental health condition may require a combination of strategies. Depending on the condition or the condition's severity, a combination of medication and therapy may be necessary. Medication is essential in managing the symptoms. On the other hand, therapy addresses the factors underlying, complicating, and maintaining the condition, and helps develop the resources for managing those factors.

Pearls Counselling and Therapy is committed to upholding the highest standards in providing therapy for mental health and collaboration with professional health care providers (e.g., physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists). Therefore, the descriptions of the conditions are consistent with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and treatment utilizes evidence based therapies.
